Uber, Ola and Rapido ordered to stop three-wheeler services in Bengaluru, India for ‘excessive’ pricing.
“Bangalore Additional Transport Commissioner Hemanth Kumara told Reuters they are not authorized to drive autos…they are charging extra and this is a serious allegation,” .
“We cannot tolerate harassment of customers and cannot justify the extra rates,” he said, adding that the transport department on Thursday issued a notice to companies to suspend services in India’s IT hub.
Ola and Uber India declined to comment. Uber has been running television ads on its auto rickshaw service in India in recent weeks
Rapido ride-sharing company, on the other hand, says its operations in Bengaluru are not illegal, and will respond to the notice.
India is a growing market for ride-sharing companies as people want to avoid driving on congested roads. One of the most economical ways to take short trips is with autorickshaws or tuk-tuks
“All our fares are determined as per the decision of the state government, and Rapido does not charge any extra on those fares,” the company said in a statement.
