On Tuesday, Microsoft released a unified version of Teams for Windows and Mac devices, combining personal, work, and educational accounts into a single app. This update eliminates the need for multiple Teams apps, allowing users to easily switch between different accounts and join video calls seamlessly. The unified app, which was first reported in development in March, was officially launched in May.
In a blog post, Microsoft highlighted that the new Teams app integrates all accounts into one interface, allowing users to manage their personal, work, and educational activities side by side. Users can switch accounts by tapping their profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen. Although it’s still possible to join meetings without being signed in, users now have the option to switch accounts before entering a call.
The app maintains all existing features, such as creating and joining meetings, building Communities, and using chat and file-sharing tools. For enterprise users, the app respects any sign-in restrictions set by administrators. “Whether you’re connecting with a customer or discussing a school event, you can now select your preferred account as you join the meeting,” said Amit Fulay, Vice President of Product at Microsoft.
