Private mobile provider Banglalink will utilize the network infrastructure of BTCL. The tower-sharing service level agreement between the two companies was signed in the meeting room of BTCL’s head office in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar was the chief guest at the event, while BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikdar was present as a special guest. The agreement was signed by BTCL Managing Director Dr. Md. Rafiqul Matin and Banglalink CEO Eric Aus on behalf of their respective organizations.
In his speech, Minister Jabbar acknowledged the significance of the agreement, calling it a milestone in the history of telecommunication in the country. He highlighted that previously the two companies have shared their optical fiber infrastructure, and the current agreement will further benefit both parties.
BTCL has turned its fortunes around, from losing 400 crores a year a few years ago, to now being profitable. BTCL Chairman Sikder welcomed the infrastructure-sharing agreement and hopes other companies will follow in the footsteps of Banglalink and BTCL.
The agreement will enable the expansion of Banglalink’s 4G network and improve the quality of its services, while also ensuring efficient use of national resources and saving energy. BTCL has been sharing its fiber with Banglalink for the past year, according to Managing Director Matin. CEO Aus noted that the agreement will provide better services to customers and allow for the appropriate utilization of resources and infrastructure. In the last year, Banglalink has added more than 3,300 base stations to its network.
