PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) faced significant challenges with the Indian government, resulting in a ban and removal from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. This action was taken due to security and violence-related concerns. As a response, Krafton introduced a localized version called Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) to address these concerns. However, BGMI also faced removal from mobile storefronts last year, once again due to security concerns.
The highly anticipated return of the game is now official, thanks to successful negotiations between Krafton and the Indian government. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is now available on the Google Play Store, allowing users to pre-load the approximately 800 MB package. Excitingly, the game servers are set to go live on May 29, aligning with its re-listing on the Apple App Store.
BGMI, as indicated by its Play Store listing, brings exciting new content to the game, including the addition of the Nusa map, a thrilling quad bike vehicle, and enticing outfit rewards obtainable through specific events. While not officially confirmed, it is anticipated that the new version of the game will feature further reductions in violence to adhere to government regulations. In previous Indian versions, alterations such as green or yellow colored blood and the term “finishes” replacing “kills” were implemented, but additional measures might be necessary. Furthermore, it is expected that a daily playtime limit will be enforced, as required by the government. Despite meeting all the official requirements, Minister of State (IT) Rajeev Chandrasekhar has clarified that this is a provisional relaunch of the game, subject to a three-month trial approval period.
