Today, AMD introduced the Radeon RX 7900 GRE desktop graphics card. While its initial announcement took place in China, the company intends to make it accessible worldwide.
The RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) is a slightly scaled-down variant of the RX 7900 XT, featuring minor reductions in the GPU and significant reductions in memory capacity.
In comparison to the 7900 XT, the 7900 GRE features some noteworthy changes. Its compute units have been reduced from 84 to 80, and the game clock has decreased from 2000MHz to 1880MHz. Moreover, the memory configuration has been altered from 20GB 20Gbps 320-bit to 16GB 18Gbps 256-bit, resulting in a memory bandwidth reduction from 800GB/s to 576GB/s. Additionally, the Infinity Cache has been downsized from 80MB to 64MB, and the board power has been lowered from 315W to 260W.
AMD’s positioning of the 7900 GRE emphasizes its suitability as a graphics card for 1440p gaming rather than 4K. The company’s marketing material also draws comparisons to the 6800 XT, suggesting it is a successor with direct comparisons between the two. As a result, the 7900 GRE is expected to deliver performance similar to that of the RTX 4070.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE is priced at 5299 RMB in China and will also have a $649 US price. Consumers can purchase it from PowerColor, Sapphire, XFX, and an official reference model from AMD. While the product was released in China on July 28, there is currently no information on the global availability or whether it will retain the same name in other regions.
